Distinguished Alumni Award

 

Purpose

 

 

 

To recognize a graduate of the School of Medicine who has demonstrated the highest principles of the medical profession and has made outstanding contributions to society and the field of medicine through patient care, basic research, clinical research, and/or health services administration.

 

Criteria

 

  • Nominee must be a graduate of the MD program or a residency or fellowship program at the School of Medicine.
  • Nominee must have graduated from the school a minimum of 10 years prior to nomination.
  • Nominee must have demonstrated service to the community:
    • Impact on the image of UTHSCSA School of Medicine by the nominee’s example, leadership or volunteerism to alumni, students, the community.
    • Extent to which the community in which the nominee resides is a better place because of nominee’s activities and leadership. 
  • Nominee must have demonstrated service to the profession:
    • Improvement or enhancement to the profession by program(s) developed by the nominee. Examples include, but are not limited to:  education, research, patient care, and healthcare administration.
    • The number impacted by program(s) of service.
  • Nominee must have demonstrated service to the School of Medicine:
    • Extent to which nominee advances the missions of the UTHSCSA School of Medicine and its Alumni Association through some combination of the following activities:
    • Supporting fundraising efforts
    • Attending on-campus or on-the-road events
    • Participating in student-alumni programs, including mentoring/shadowing, HOST, community service, and guest-speaker at student club meetings
    • Serving on the Alumni Board or other School of Medicine organizations (e.g., serving on School of Medicine’s Admissions Committee by reviewing admission applications)
    • Serving as Class Agent for Reunion Weekend
 
 
 
 

Nomination Materials and Instructions

 

Nomination packet should contain:

  • A completed Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award nomination form.
  • A comprehensive letter from the nominator describing the reason for nomination (see details below).
  • A copy of the nominee’s current CV or resume

 

Regarding the nominating process:

Nominees must be nominated by a person(s) other than themselves.

  • Nominator must submit a complete nomination packet to the School of Medicine Alumni Relations Office no later than July 31.

Selection

 

The School of Medicine Alumni Association’s Awards Committee will select the recipient of this award based on the nominee’s CV and his/her service to the community, the profession, and the School of Medicine. All decisions are final.

 

Timeline

Final selection will be made by August 2015. The recipient will be notified at that time and will be formally presented with the award at Reunion Weekend in October.

 

Award

The recipient receives a framed certificate.
