FAME Student Mentoring Program
In Summer 2013, the School of Medicine Alumni Association will launch a mentoring program to support the first class of students beginning our new Facilitated Acceptance to Medical Education (FAME) Program in August 2013.
What Is FAME?
In response to a request from the University of Texas System, the School of Medicine and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) have partnered to develop FAME -- an innovative seven-year program leading to the awarding of a baccalaureate and MD degree.
How Many Alumni Mentors Do We Need?
We would like to recruit 20 alumni mentors to pair with the 20 students who will begin the FAME Program this year. We will also recruit 20 current medical students to help mentor the FAME students. So each FAME student will have an alumni mentor and a medical student mentor.
What Kind of Commitment Is Required?
We would like our alumni mentors to make the following commitment:
- Three-year commitment to mentor a FAME student through the undergraduate portion of the FAME Program.
- Host your FAME student for two shadowing sessions per semester.
- Be accessible via email and phone for periodic communications with your FAME student.
If you are interested in mentoring a FAME student, please contact us at 210-567-4400 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
