Dr. Heather Briggs

Welcome! My name is Heather Briggs, and I’m an attending inpatient physician in the Division of General and Hospital Medicine. I grew up in Denton, TX, which is north of Dallas. It is well known for music so I spent much of my time at outdoor concerts. I went to Texas A&M University in College Station (Whoop!). Yes, I am a huge college football fan and Saturdays in the fall are reserved. Go Aggies! I completed my B.S. in biomedical science and then stayed on to complete my MD/PhD at Texas A&M.

I moved to San Antonio in 2007 for my Internal Medicine Residency, completed a chief year, and then finished an Infectious Disease fellowship. I joined the UTHCSA faculty in 2014. I primarily work at University Hospital as a hospitalist and I am active in the MS3 Medicine Clerkship. Throughout residency, fellowship, and now faculty, I have enjoyed mentoring medical students. I am also active in Quality Improvement projects at University Hospital.

When I leave the hospital, I am busy with my husband, Adriel Malavé (UTHSCSA pulmonary-critical care faculty) and running after my toddler. We also recently welcomed a daughter, so it is very busy in our house! Our two cats also keep things lively. I enjoy going to the movies, eating at new restaurants, and watching the HGTV channel. I am looking forward to the upcoming year!

Hi friends! I was born in Augusta, Georgia but I moved to Houston when I was 7, so that is where I call home. I went to Baylor University (Sic 'em) and graduated with my BS in Biology in Dec. 2013. I have grown to love San Antonio since moving here and I spend my free time discovering new restaurants, frequenting the Pearl farmer's market, and hosting game nights with my friends.

I am going into emergency medicine and couples matching with an internal medicine applicant. I am so excited to meet y'all and can't wait to answer any questions you may have!

Hi! I'm not a native Texan, but I've grown to love it! I'm from Bountiful, Utah and I attended Brigham Young University where I graduated with a B.S. in Psychology. I jumped straight into medical school after undergraduate. I'm planning on going into Orthopaedic Surgery after medical school. I'm married and have a son and they help me stay focused and work hard when I'm at school and to take my mind off everything else when I'm at home. My hobbies outside of school are, as much as I can find time, playing soccer, finding good restaurants, exploring things to see in Hill Country, and in general spending time with my wife and son. I have loved medical school and I'm excited to help in any way that I can, giving advice from my experience or connecting you with other fourth years and faculty that can help. If I had one word of advice for you, it's to start making connections with students in every class because all of us have been through what you're going through and want to help in any way we can. Good luck, and feel free to reach out!

Hi everyone, and welcome to San Antonio! I was born and raised in Austin, Texas. I graduated from SMU in Dallas in 2013 with degrees in Biology and Psychology. After college I worked as a scribe in the Emergency Department at Parkland and as an intern at Baylor Research Institute for a year before medical school. In my free time I love running, hiking, traveling, ranching, and spending time with family and friends. I am so excited to be your MiM and can’t wait to meet you all!

I have physically lived in San Antonio for 25/25 of my years. I attended St. Mary's University as a Biology major. After graduating a semester early, I embarked on a 3 month trip to the Negev Desert in Israel where I spent my days studying desert wildlife physiology by tagging/releasing birds, wrecking ant hills, and collecting scorpions. The idea is to match into general surgery in Dallas where my husband will be earning his MBA degree. My interests include phone gaming, patio gardening (shout out to Garden & Health Interest Group), and exercising to eat. I excitedly welcome this opportunity to get to know more students and be of service to y'all!

I am originally from Plano, TX, which is a suburb just north of Dallas. However, I consider San Antonio home since I completed my undergrad here at UTSA, where I majored in Biology. I graduated in 2016, and I am a traditional student. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, catching up on good Netflix shows (currently taking recommendations so hmu), and playing my ukulele. I’m not sure what kind of doctor I want to be because I change my mind basically every week, but right now I’m thinking pediatrics because I love working with kids. I’m really excited to be a VPA and can’t wait to meet the Class of 2021! GO GREEEEEN!

I've spent most of my life in the greater Austin area, but moved around enough to attend four different high schools, finally graduating in the Sacramento, California area in 2008. I moved myself back to Austin when I was 19 and until being accepting into medical school had not imagined living anywhere else. I got my B.S. from St. Edward's University in 2015 with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I spent the subsequent year in a paid internship with Asuragen, Inc., working as lab manager for the R&D department and assisting with the development of one of their new PCR/CE kits targeting the C9orf72 gene; along with submitting my medical school application. I have been a non-traditional student since graduating from high school, so if you've got any questions about readjusting to the academic environment I'd be happy to offer any advice I can! In my free time I watch far too much television (Jane the Virgin, Insecure, and the Americans are currently some of my favorites. I also love taking my two pups (a Pomeranian and a Mastiff) to the park with my partner Taylor (a law student at UT Law in Austin) and generally spending as much time as I can in the sunlight. Beyond medical school I know that I want to work with underserved women and the trans community in San Antonio, bridging the gaps in care to which these populations are particularly vulnerable.

Hey my name is Sean Catlett. I was born and raised in the wonderful state of North Carolina (yes, it is like living in a Nicholas Sparks movie). I graduated from BYU in Exercise Science and luckily got into med school 2 weeks before school started. I'm looking at going into orthopedic surgery, but that is susceptible to change tomorrow. I love any sport with a ball, especially golf. I'm excited to be involved with Veritas and can't wait to make medical school as fun as it can be.
