Dr. Rachel Garvin

Dr. Rachel Garvin

Dr. Garvin began her medical career working for five years as a Registered Nurse. While working in the PICU at Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC, she decided she wanted to change her provider role and expand her knowledge base. She completed her pre-medical studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, before attending University Of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, MD, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2006. Her interest in Emergency Medicine took her and her family to the University of Cincinnati for residency. Having always enjoyed the challenges of critical care, she developed an interest in Neurocritical care and completed a Neurocritical care fellowship in 2012. As faculty at the UT Health San Antonio, she is the Neurocritical Care Division Chief as well as the Neurocritical Care fellowship director. Dr. Garvin also continues to work clinically in the emergency department. Dr. Garvin is also involved in teaching; directing medical student rotations in the neuroICU and lecturing throughout multiple departments in the university as well as locally and nationally. Dr. Garvin also does work in resuscitative care as the chair of the hospital Resuscitation Services Committee and is also active hospital and University-wide on a number of administrative and service levels.

Oliver Batiste

Welcome to UTHSA! My name is Oliver Batiste and I hail from the land of crawfish, Cajun/Creole cuisine, and Mardi Gras. I grew up and went to undergrad in Lafayette, Louisiana where I majored in nursing. I worked as an ER nurse in Dallas for about 2 years before medical school. I plan to do a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology with hopes of completing a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. In my free time, I enjoy running, fishing with my dad, planning for next year's Mardi Gras. Helping other medical students navigate their way through med school is a passion of mine I look forward to building relationships with all of you.

Hi, my name is Andrew Bowman and I am from Dallas, Texas. I attended Baylor University where I majored in Baylor Business Fellows. Now, I am excited to be in the process of applying to Ophthalmology. In my free time, I enjoy staying active (golf, running, etc.), hunting/fishing, guitar, and watching all of my sports teams (Dallas Stars, DALLAS MAVERICKS, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers). I look forward to helping in any way that I can, as you all make one of the most difficult, and yet, eye-opening transitions of your lives.

Adriana Castro

Adriana Castro

Hi team! My name is Adriana Castro. I'm so excited to get to meet everyone! Just a few things about myself... I grew up in San Antonio (#gospursgo) and received my bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Trinity University in 2013. After I graduated, I worked on some research during my gap year and then thankfully started medical school. The past three years have been quite a ride, and I'm glad I've made it this far. On my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, binge watching Netflix, and recently started playing co-ed flag football with San Antonio Sports & Social Club. I'm very close to deciding what specialty to go into, so I'll save the big news for when I meet you all. Regardless, I'm excited to see what the future brings. Can't wait to meet y'all!

Stephanie Jensen

Stephanie Jensen

Hey everyone! My name is Stephanie and I'm from the Los Angeles area. I attended UCLA for my undergraduate degree and then took a year off to work for a neurosurgeon in the area. When I came to interview at UTHSA I was struck by how welcoming and supportive the faculty was, and I have continued to feel that way throughout my last three years here. I plan on applying to Urology in the fall. I discovered the specialty during my third year rotations, and was surprised by how great of a fit it was for me. My hobbies include traveling, hiking and finding fantastic vegetarian food.
