I am a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UTHSCSA. I grew up in beautiful California and studied Biophysics at UCLA where I developed my passion for medicine. After undergrad, I came to Texas to attend medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas. I initially planned on going back to LA after medical school, but Texas has a way of drawing you in! I met my wonderful husband in San Antonio and we decided to stay in Texas. I attended residency here at UTHSCSA and decided to stay on as faculty. As a faculty, I enjoy being able to see patients in many different settings, including well-child clinics, prenatal clinics, the Juvenile Detention Center, and the University Hospital inpatient service. I have loved mentoring residents and students and sharing with them the joy of medicine. I have stayed active in a couple of student-run organizations/clinics at UTHSCSA and I love going on trips with Frontera de Salud and volunteering at the SAMM shelter.

I enjoy spending time with my large family (who somehow all moved to San Antonio after we did) and hiking in the beautiful hill country surrounding San Antonio. We also regularly take trips to Colorado and Alaska to hike there. I am also a brand new mom (our precious son was born in april 2016) and am currently adjusting to the joys and sleepless nights of motherhood.

I'm from Corpus Christi, Texas originally. I went to Davidson College, where I majored in history, and then received a masters in physiology from Virginia Commonwealth University. I look forward to going into either ENT or pediatrics (decisions are hard!). I enjoy going to movies with my girlfriend Samantha, camping, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. I look forward to having a great time mentoring with Veritas!

Born and raised in Laredo. My son has four legs and can't jump pretty high (Rat terrier). I think children are the coolest, and plan on subspecializing in pediatric rehab. Even though I love medicine, I like to think that there is more to life than our profession. I enjoy being outdoors riding my mountain bike, long boarding, hiking, and talking my dog on long walks. Looking forward to meeting you all!

I was born in Ipswich, England and spent most of my childhood in Abilene, Texas at Dyess AFB (daughter of an Air Force Sergeant). I graduated from Trinity University in 2011 with a B.S. in biochemistry and a minor in sociology. Following graduation, I spent two years working on community health projects in Jassong, The Gambia as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I was thrilled to return to San Antonio to pursue my MD/MPH and have been overwhelmed by the opportunities at the Long School of Medicine. I led the Refugee Accompaniment Health Partnership, an organization connecting refugees in San Antonio with health care, traveled to Aleta Wondo, Ethiopia with the Global Health Elective, and conducted a public health project in the University Hospital emergency department. In my free time, I enjoy camping in the Hill Country and spending time with my Peace Corps pup, Tiyo. I am planning to apply to emergency medicine residency programs this fall. I look forward to meeting the newest Veritas members and welcoming you to our family.

Hello everybody! I am originally from California, but then my family moved to Texas after my Dad retired from the U.S. Air Force. After we finally settled down in Schertz, I went to Samuel Clemens High school and then stayed local for my undergraduate studies and attended UIW, where I majored in Biology and played Women's Softball on an athletic scholarship. After graduating college, I took a gap year before starting medical school and worked as a softball coach and a medical scribe.

In my free time, I love to work out so you can always find me at your local gym! I also love to play the piano, travel, and try new foods at different restaurants around town. For medical school, I decided to apply for the MD/MPH program to take advantage of the research and public health opportunities available, so if you have any questions about the dual program please feel free to ask! I am currently interested in the fields of Orthopedics, Trauma Surgery and Psychiatry (I know those are all vastly different specialties!), but I am really using this time to explore everything the medical field has to offer. I am so excited to be your VPA and I can't wait to meet you guys!

Hello friends!

Im Mark Cavazos, I'm from a little more south ""South Texas"" than San Antonio which is McAllen (Its so hot down there!). I graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2016 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology, I actually started out as a nursing major but decided to pursue Medicine my sophomore year in collage (I ain't going back now!). UT Health San Antonio was my top choice of school because of their presence in the Rio Grande Valley and it feeling just like home for me! I have fallen in love with the Long School of Medicine ever since, I have received a fantastic education here and the faculty is always wanting to hear your opinions to make things even better! Before entering Medical School I had a enormous interest in Anesthesiology, and I still am very interested in Anesthesiology (Such a plot twist)! But keeping a open mind Im also very interested in Pathology (I use to teach Histology Lab in Undergrad), Hematology, and recently Trauma Surgery (Because I have an amazing Preceptor who has greatly peaked my interest in the field!). In my free time I like to spend time with my friends and go out and eat, play boardgames, basketball, and go watch movies at the theatre! I also volunteer and am a member of many of the groups here at UT Health San Antonio, participate in Community outreach here in San Antonio, and take trips with the Frontera group to places around South Texas to provide free Medical Aid. Im ecstatic to be a VPA for the incoming class of 2021! I look forward to getting to know all of you, and help you/be part of your amazing journey in Medicine!
