Hi, my name is Anam and I am so excited to be your MIM this year! Welcome to UTHSCSA! I was born in England and have been on the move ever since, until my family finally decided to settle in Houston, Texas. I graduated from Rice University in 2014 with a degree in Bioengineering. I was happy to keep the adventure going and moved to San Antonio for medicine, which has been an incredible experience so far. I am heavily involved in research and different extracurricular activities that promote diversity and community outreach. I have also had the incredible opportunity work in Guatemala along with a brilliant team of medical students and faculty through the global health elective. I am looking to go into a specialty that balances both clinic and procedures. Outside of school, I love going to concerts, trying new foods, and exploring San Antonio just as much as I love spending the day in reading sci-fi and watching movies. Medical school is going to be a journey of a lifetime. As your MIM, I look forward to helping you navigate your first year of medical school and beyond!

Melissa Meyer

Melissa Meyer

My name is Melissa Meyer, and I’m excited to be one of your Veritas MiMs this year! I grew up in Dallas, TX before graduating from Baylor University. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, watching television, and spending time with my family. My favorite thing about UT Health San Antonio has been the student camaraderie, which supported my transition from a new MS-I to the MS-IV I am today. I’ve been involved in Recruitment Committee, Student Run Free Clinics, Global Health, and research, and I’m pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine. I wanted to be a MiM because I truly love mentoring and teaching, so please let me know if I can help in any way.

Natalie Garza Philpott

Natalie Garza Philpott

Hey y'all, my name is Natalie. I was born in San Antonio, raised in Del Rio (a little city on the border). I went to UT Austin and did a Public Health major. I'm interested in global health, pediatrics, and health care advocacy! I hope to find a way to make each of those work :) In med school, I've mostly spent time working on projects that intertwine community service learning and pediatrics. I love to spend time outside of school canoeing or camping with my husband David (who is also a medical student) and my mini schnauzer mix Dexter!

Jeremy Shapiro

Hi everyone! I'm Jeremy and I went to Plano Senior High School in Plano, TX. I then went to the University of Texas in Austin and majored in Computer Science graduating in 2014. I love being in San Antonio! I am planning on pursuing a career in Physical Medicine & Rehab! Outside of school, I love going to the movies (trying to watch all IMDB Top 250), going to concerts, hiking, exploring San Antonio with my friends, and running outside. I love meeting new people and would love to talk to you guys about whatever is on your mind. I look forward to the next year as a MiM! Can't wait to meet all of you!

Charles Huynh

Charles Huynh

Hello Everyone! My name is Charles Huynh, and I was born-and-raised in Beaumont, Texas. One of Beaumont’s larger claims to fame is the world’s 3rd largest fire hydrant. Beyond that small remark, Beaumont is just an average city filled with refineries and plants. In 2016, I graduated from Lamar University (located in Beaumont) with a degree in chemical engineering. While in undergrad, I held many jobs; it ranged from private tutoring, substitute teaching, JCPenney Associate, and controls engineer intern. Aside from working, I also tried and failed to learn to cook. I am still currently uncertain of what I would like to pursue as a career, but I am interested in primary care and cardiothoracic surgery. In San Antonio, my favorite place to eat is Taqueria Datapoint, and my favorite activity is tennis. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and serving as a VPA!

Thomas Lu

Thomas Lu

Hello future-doctors! My name is Thomas and I was born in Taiwan. I moved over to California when I was but a young 9-year-old grasshopper. After high school, I moved to Texas, where I became a Baylor bear who studied biochemistry for 4 years. I took a gap year after graduating and worked in the Houston Texas Medical Center for a year before I was blessed with the opportunity to come to Long School of Medicine. I am leaning towards a career in surgery, but I'm keeping an open mind. On my free time, I enjoy getting friends together to play board games, watch movies, or play volleyball, softball, or basketball. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!

Codey Pham

Codey Pham

My name is Codey Pham and I've spent the vast majority of my life in the great state of Texas. I was born in Houston, raised in Sugar Land (with a short stint in Singapore), and went to the University of Texas where I graduated with a degree in chemical engineering in 2016. I first thought I wanted to go into engineering, but I eventually saw the light and decided that medicine was the career path for me. No clue what specialty I want to pursue, but I'm open to anything. I love traveling with my family, and in my free time I like to hang out with friends if I'm not watching Game of Thrones or my Houston Rockets.
