Research can bring Healthy Aging! An important goal of the Center for Healthy Aging is to support and conduct cutting edge aging research, and translate discoveries made through basic biomedical research towards patient care.
The Center for Healthy Aging is the clinical arm of the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies, a world renowned aging research institute that brings leading scientists in aging research together with clinical faculty to foster the advancement of basic, translational and clinical research aimed at improving the lives of our Seniors.
The Center for Healthy Aging is also housed within the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. Our partnership with the GRECC will further enhance a research program devoted to advancing scientific knowledge in several geriatrics and gerontology related areas. This research will develop newer and better ways to improve the health and quality of life of older Veterans.
In concert with our CTSA Colleagues we are developing interventions aimed at the prevention and treatment of disabling diseases that affect millions of elderly patients, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, frailty, sarcopenia, and dementia.
