LCME Institutional Self Study


MESSAGE FROM THE INTERIM DEAN

 

image_Ronald RodriguezThe Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) will conduct an accreditation survey visit of the Joe R. and Teresa Long School of Medicine on January 27 - 30, 2019. Receipt of this notification initiates an 18-month self-study process to comprehensively review and evaluate our educational program leading to the MD degree. This cyclical process, central to compliance with LCME standards of accreditation and complimentary to internal processes of continuous quality improvement, culminates in a self-study report identifying our strengths and opportunities, as well as strategies for addressing shortfalls and identified needs. The LCME last conducted a full accreditation visit in January 2011. The resultant adverse accreditation decision was remediated in a focused survey visit in May 2013


Dr. Florence "Flossy" Eddins-Folensbee, Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and faculty lead for the May 2013 accreditation remediation survey visit, will lead the self-study process and coordinate the official LCME site visit in early 2019. This website has been established to keep everyone abreast of our progress leading up to the site visit. Additional details will be released as finalized.


Currently, planning is underway to develop several task force groups to evaluate the MD program. I ask for the active participation of all stakeholders across our medical education community...students, faculty, staff, hospital and clinical partners. Broad engagement across our educational community to conduct a thoughtful review of our medical education program will be critical to our success and renewed accreditation.
